Prosperity Week in Palmyra featured Latham ring and trapeze acts on Main Street east of the courthouse and Major Del Fontaine on Franklin Theater platform. Crowds packed the merry go round and free moving pictures, with continued shows through Wednesday. An automobile parade Wednesday at 2:30 drew 100 plus entries and five cash prizes. Thursday hosts a free baseball game at Kneapple Park and multiple public speeches at the courthouse by candidates for state and county offices. Hannibal sent 60 autos to boost festivities. a large fireworks display was planned for Thursday evening.
In Griggsville Illinois Frank Daintels and Jamily plan to attend a Jacksonville graduation where their son Fred will graduate. Measles strike Mrs Gray and daughters Clista and Bertha. The Fair association buys a five passenger Chevrolet to raffle at the August fair. Farmers work long hours as weather favors crops, weeds threaten corn. Local visits include Mrs Ed Newman and two children returning from Florida.
Clem Stokes of Deer Ridge is gravely ill with paralysis and no hope of improvement per Dr. Wilson of LaBelle. Sister Melissa Tripp remains at his bedside from Kansas. Deer Ridge hosted gatherings in LaBelle with candidates and a ball at city hall. Mrs Mollie Ragan of near Lewistown remains critically burned and in danger. Mrs Nancy McLin recovers from heart trouble and stays with Ed Levingood’s family. Rev Howerton preached services. Lizzie Allen shopped in Quincey and will teach at Cross roads southern of Williamstown.
The column records Miss Alma Cort with daughter Mrs Ed Kerrick visiting family, several residents trading in Hannibal and Palmyra, and others visiting friends in Heather and Hunnewell. It notes a local political interest, a Standard Oil rep visit, and a Bay Mill team game.
