Telfer System for Terminals and Related Freight Handling
Description of the Telfer system with motor driven carriages on an overhead monorail. Freight moves from vessel to warehouse via hoists and trolleys. Loop tracks, high speed at curves, housing over water, and operator control improve efficiency. Advantages include reduced labor and better control. disadvantages include high installation cost and need for multiple trolleys to achieve capacity. Recommendations favor Telfer where surface obstructions exist or long inshore freight moves.
