From Havana dated June 6, despatches report dates to June 1 from the City of Mexico. Congress is expected to convene an extra session to finish debate on various reform items. Stage between Veracruz and Jalapa robbed. one passenger killed. Six bandits executed at Zacatecas. General Rocha moves with revolutionary forces in Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas.
Mexican news from Havana reports a violent earthquake hitting Oaxaca. In Oaxaca city 103 people were killed and 58 wounded, with one third of the city rendered uninhabitable. Mines also suffered eleven deaths and many injuries as buildings collapsed across the state.
Washington June 6 reports from the Senate on public lands and waterway bills. Amendments to California canal lands and Mississippi River waterway projects progress. census marshals pay increased up to eight dollars daily with a 50 percent ceiling and extra allowance for sparse populations. Indian appropriation bills move with funding for industrial schools and services, debates on rules and amendments continue, and a recess follows.
A report notes the Guaymas revolution nearing completion while a railroad bridge at Troy, N.Y. was set on fire yesterday and narrowly avoided destruction. Other items include a ship Wm F Storer burned in New York with an estimated loss of 200000 dollars and Horace Greeley's fever.
The Atchison Patriot recounts a Southbound rail incident where a crafty Irish family of a mother a 14 year old boy and a girl under 12 evade fares on a Missouri River Fort Scott and Fort Cara line at Kansas City. The boy hid under his mother’s skirts as the conductor entered to collect fares.
