Allied airmen damage aerodrome at Gontrode
Tele graaf reports from AMSTERDAM on May 31 that two allied airmen dropped 19 bombs on the aerodrome at Gontrode southeast of Ghent destroying much of the airfield and exploding large quantities of explosives. Forty four soldiers were killed and an unknown number wounded, according to the correspondent.

He criticized crew behavior saying they prioritized self preservation and failed to aid passengers while stewards appeared inexperienced.
