An 1872 notice offering the Weekly Hale to November 15 for fifty cents. It promotes advancing subscription rates for one copy at 40 cents, ten copies at 3 50, and twenty five copies at 8 50. It urges circulation of the documents and provides the address Quincy Illinois.
The Republican meeting at the Court House in Quincy invites all Republicans to attend and bring friends to hear D W Munn of Cairo. He is praised as an able eloquent speaker on general politics, and the gathering aims to be imposing for the campaign start.
Gen Richard J Oglesby will speak at multiple Illinois towns from Aug 1 to Aug 17 with venues in Belleville Nashville Carlyle Centralia Sullivan Paxton Watseka Pontiac El Paso Peoria Lacon Princeton and more. John H Yeager and Dr Charles Neubert will speak in German at Belleville Nashville Carlyle meetings. Gen John L Beveridge Jesse Moore J W Wilkin will speak at listed towns Aug 6 to Aug 13. D W Munn and E A Storra appear in Morris and other dates. Gen John A Logan will present a forthcoming list of appointments. he is at Halt Lake for health.

London July 23 Parliament debated enforcing the 1829 Catholic Relief Act to banish Jesuits from England. Gladstone said the issue is serious though long dormant. no steps have been taken to enforce the act. Also reported Geneva Board proceedings to be laid before Parliament. no session today. Liverpool railway porters strike disrupts business.
July crop report notes Illinois corn acreage up two percent Iowa up one percent with strong grain condition mainly above average in many counties. Spring wheat conditions near 108 in Iowa and 109 in Illinois. President refutes Senator Schurz claims of patronage offers for San Domingo annexation. Confederate archives reveal Thompson and associates funded plans to burn northern cities. Deputy Comptroller of the Currency vacancy to be filled by competitive exam on August 2. Cabinet meeting largely attended. Delano absent. Appointments include California commissioners to study Southern Pacific Railway and telegraph lines.
County Commissioners offered three abstract firms 300000 for titles to real estate in the county. The first Temperance Law case favored liquor dealers as the drunken man forcibly took liquor from the bar. In Winetka the Blake divorce trial ended with the jury finding Mrs Blake not guilty of adultery.
In Sanatoga on July 23 Miss Mansfield testified that Barnard visited her New York home in 1868 and 1869, knew Fisk gave Barnard’s son a thousand dollar gift, believed Fisk said Gould was involved, and that the sum was ten thousand dollars. In New York the eight hour movement appears collapsed with unions weakened. Major Starrett Ramsey, 82, longtime Paymaster in the Navy, died at Gerryspunra.
ST LOUIS July 23 The terms of a lease of the Missouri Pacific Railroad to the Atlantic and Pacific are ten per cent on the present stock eight million six hundred thousand dollars twelve per cent for two years and fourteen per cent for 909 years Joseph Brown will remain president and become managing director of the Atlantic and Pacific.
Cincinnati July 23 A hoisting machine collapsed at McNealee and Urban's safe factory. Julius Urban brother of the proprietor was killed and three workers Charles Shaeffer Albert Roach and Yost were seriously injured.
In PrnaDEiriata last night Alderman Wm McMullen was shot in the breast by Hugh Mare a pardoned convict in a tavern adjoining the Moiamensing House where anniversary exercises of company were in progress McMullen may recover and had the man arrested for theft prior to the shooting. Lowery the Swamp Angel leader was killed by brothers of Col Wishart and James McKay and Jas Campbell as he headed to a political meeting. Discharged strikers clashed with station workers at Long Island City. police dispersed them after a half hour fight. Governor Williamsport issued a proclamation declaring the strikers acts unlawful and ordered militia to enforce the law two militi a companies under Gen Merrill arrested four leaders.

A Springfield political gathering will mark the dedication of a new Republican wigwam on Thursday night with speeches expected by Gen Bev eridge Ton J K Edsall Senator Morton of Ind and others. Joseph St Bancroft of Jacksonville is named as Republican candidate for the Legislature from that district. Several veteran Democratic leaders including Col Thomas J Turner W C Goudy Judge B F Edwards Hon Jos Ledlie Judge Parka and Col Stahl of Galena are said to withhold support from Greeley while some will back Grant.
