A Weston Missouri Reporter account recalls G F Pittman of Callaway county and a companion Moore of Coleco taken by a 300-strong Sioux and Cheyenne party while seeking horses on the Blue River. They were marched to the Platte south fork near Fort Laramie, detained three weeks, escaped, and reached Fort Kearney aided by Captain Wharton. One accompanying Black man was killed by arrows during the captivity.
