Devil Bargain in a New Amsterdam Hearth
In 1693 New Amsterdam, David Staats endures a harsh marriage with Amelia Gull. After a turbulent stormy night, the Devil appears, tempts Staats with a chance to win freedom and gold by finding someone who can whip the Devil. A comic chase ensues as Amelia confronts the intruder, who escapes through a magical doorway. Staats receives a bag of gold, and Amelia stays with the Devil, leaving Staats to a happier life with the memory of his folly.
