Work to bring solons in line explained in Chicago
The congressional committee investigating undue political activity by the National Security League spent the day in Chicago hearing Emil C. Wetter, chairman of a Chicago league sub-committee, and H. J. Buckley, the local branch secretary. Wetter described a primary campaign letter urging defeat of Mayor Thompson and Congressman Britten, noting it was for patriotic reasons with no follow up actions. Buckley said mailing the letter cost 200 dollars. Wetter discussed Congressman Niels Juul’s testimony amid questions about Lundy draft matter, and Juul’s pledge to vote right and secrecy. The panel questioned several Illinois Republicans about war legislation, with no decisive findings.
