A fragment describes a river journey now free of ice and navigable with a three foot rise at this time. The York State departure from St Louis occurred Wednesday morning, with several other boats advertised to leave and expected to arrive by afternoon.
Adams County presents a fine sample of No 1 tobacco grown by Mr John Holden on Bear Creek. A careful inspection shows the county can raise tobacco rivaling any area with yields of seven to eight hundred pounds per acre last season. The quality and climate are praised as well suited to staple cultivation.

Wilmington Delaware January 9 Williams convicted for Milford post office robbery, four years in prison.
New York reports mixed commodity trading with 6500 bbls, 1000 bbls at 9 dollars, wheat firm, corn active, pork higher with 500 bbls at 12 dollars. Ohio and Southern markets show similar movement. Also notes whiskey price up to 260, hogs dull, weather cloudy with rain indications. James Harlan elected U.S. Senator from Iowa. Pittsburgh mayoral results favor citizens’ candidate. various legal and local notices follow including a Post Office case and a Georgia hunting vignette.

The tale recounts betrayal, a costly debt, and shifting loyalties as the narrator contends with arranged marriage, a bill for 50 pounds, and an unexpected godfather invitation.
The Senate discussed amending the act to reduce land prices to 14 cents per acre for new settlers and natives, with Etheridge proposing a native citizen limitation. The bill was laid aside. The Military Committee was directed to study extending armed occupation of New Mexico and Utah to curb Indian outrages. Senator Norris faced a serious heart attack but recovered.
