Chicago faced a historic blizzard as freezing winds halted most trains across the central west. Railroads discontinued operations to clear switches and move coal while passengers crowded stations and 36 stock cars risked freezing.
AMSTERDAM Jan. 13 Leon Trotzky Bolsheviki foreign minister told the Brest Litovsk conference that the Russian delegation would continue peace negotiations at Brest Litovsk to avoid hindering the effort for peace. He noted the central powers claim the Dec 25 basis for general peace is void and affirmed adherence to democratic peace. He explained Russia prefers not to move talks to neutral venues, arguing entente interference would be unlikely at any location. The Russian delegation thus accepts remaining in Brest Litovsk and continues negotiations while removing the quadruple alliance as a pretext to break talks. Continued on Page 15.
