New York January 2 Col Edward M House longtime personal adviser to President Wilson has broken all ties with the President and will not back Wilson or any Wilson choice for the Democratic nomination. He favors Senator Oscar Underwood or another conservative Democrat and seeks support for Underwood and Hitchcock as minority Senate leader. The split stems from House promises to back Irish independence and the return of Fiume to Italy and Wilson’s resistance to those aims. House, once pivotal in Paris peace talks, grew tense after snubs and policy disagreements and is now recovering from illness while preparing a report for Secretary Lansing.
