Paris February 24 A Lafayette Flying Corps airman Vernon Booth of Chicago brought down a German airplane during a petrol duty mission. After engaging the hostile aircraft the German descended and Booth forced it to crash in a forest. Booth later reportedly returned to base in Paris and was noted for his service in the French theater.

Washington February 24 The War Department Saturday night issued an additional list of ten identified dead American soldiers who perished when their ship was torpedoed by a German submarine near the Tuscania. The new identifications include Privates Sterling Catlin St James Adri Arthur No Harvey Joseph Redfield Edward Routt Thomas Wasson Claude Walker Walker was added to the unit roster as unaccounted for and had not previously been listed.
Thousands lined Dubuque streets as Lib Jwhedett led a farewell for the citys draft army unit. A two band parade, a draft corps, seven companies of volunteers, Civil War veterans, and local boards joined in. Stores closed and crowds cheered as buses and soldiers passed.
