Washington Feb 19 A temporary army of about 540000 officers and men was eliminated from the annual army appropriation bill after passage of the senate bill for resumption of voluntary enlistments in the peace time army. The house adopted the measure and sent it to the senate. it carries 1070000000 for the war department for the year after June 30. The senate bill would not affect the present war time army under the selective service act. The house vote to consider the senate measure was 172 to 12, with ten Republicans joining 162 Democrats.
