Remains of J Wilkes Booth Interred at Greenmount

Special dispatches report that J Wilkes Booth remains were placed in a vault at Greenmount cemetery in Baltimore. The skeleton lay in a splended coffin with much of the flesh dissolved into bones. An old shoe rested on one foot and a cut open boot on the other, while a brown coat black vest and black pants rotted away. Crowds viewed the remains and tore at blankets to obtain souvenirs. Interment to be conducted later in secret.

Casualties in Glendale Steamer Fire Near Evansville

The steamer Glendale, en route from Cincinnati to St Louis with freight and passengers, caught fire in the pilothouse above Green River seven miles from Evansville. The captain and crew fought the blaze, landed women and children safely, and prevented loss of life though the pilot house and portion of the Texas were damaged.
