Special dispatches report that J Wilkes Booth remains were placed in a vault at Greenmount cemetery in Baltimore. The skeleton lay in a splended coffin with much of the flesh dissolved into bones. An old shoe rested on one foot and a cut open boot on the other, while a brown coat black vest and black pants rotted away. Crowds viewed the remains and tore at blankets to obtain souvenirs. Interment to be conducted later in secret.
New York February 18 A Rio Janeiro letter to the Sun reports Lopez's refusal to lay down arms after a formal demand. It notes Angostura's assault and defence, and mentions Minister McMahon advising Lopez to continue the fight.
Cuicaco February 18 F M Symons, a local pedestrian, began a 1300 mile walk to Savannah Georgia on a wager. He set out yesterday afternoon with the aim of completing the feat in thirty days.
Reports from Cuba and surrounding regions describe rebel activity near San Miguel and Cochno Swamp, with government troops pursuing. Cholera deaths rise in Santiago, while loyalists hold ground in Villa Clara. Emigration from the island grows as authorities seize vessels and patrol coasts. In Ottawa a flare of clashes near Gienfengas is reported with thousands of troops in action and Cuban emigrants seeking escape. Sugar markets show reduced activity amid instability.

The steamer Glendale, en route from Cincinnati to St Louis with freight and passengers, caught fire in the pilothouse above Green River seven miles from Evansville. The captain and crew fought the blaze, landed women and children safely, and prevented loss of life though the pilot house and portion of the Texas were damaged. Captain Fuller remained at the wheel until safe ashore.
