Salem Ore Feb 3 Gov James Withey combe signed the absolute prohibition measure passed by the legislature and it immediately became law. No more orders for liquor can be sent but mail order houses in other states have five days to fill orders on hand. The law bans importation of liquor except for medical or religious use. President Wilson was told by fifteen Democratic senators that the German declaration was an affront and that any course other than a rupture of diplomatic relations would be viewed as cowardice. Senators pledged unanimous support for whatever action he chose.
