Bank shooting leads to man identified as former bank president
In Peoria on December 27, witnesses testified at the coroner's inquest about a bank shooting. John Franklin identified E A Strause, former president of the Plaite Trust and Savings Bank, as the man who locked the door after the first shot and then left before two more shots rang out. Bloodstains and broken glass were found at the desk, and Mead's Christmas gift coat was noted. Franklin described seeing a man lock the door, then two more shots followed. Strause was present with two brothers at the time, though Franklin picked out Strause as the shooter. The inquest opened at 10 a.m., with a packed court room observing the scene.
