Germans Believe U- Boats Will Win War For Kaiser

Basel, Switzerland, Nov 1. From the German point of view the U boat campaign is seen as a means to end the war. Germans believe England is starving, France is tightening, and Yarmouth troops mutiny. They claim U boats sink 800,000 tons monthly, though allies dispute. The campaign sustains German morale and fuels hope that by year’s end Atlantic traffic will end. They view US entry as a hindrance but expect postwar markets. The Germans’ tone shows distrust of Allied reporting and a desire to influence peace with Yankee influence.
