Maine Street Paving Approved by City Council

The council passed the revised Maine street paving measure 11 to 2, with Aldermen Bisser and Klein dissenting. The project to surface Maine street from Eighth to Twenty-fourth via creosoted wood blocks, estimated at 163,504 dollars, excludes the street railway portion to be paved by the company under its franchise. A petition with 6,999 front feet opposed the paving was discussed, while a Civic Improvement League request urged painting public utility poles every five years. The Waterworks report for six months ending March 31 showed a net profit of 20,338.58 after expenses.
