Big oil field eyed as northeast Missouri grows
Reports from Mon roe county near the Marion line indicate a large oil and gas discovery by the Midvale Oil Co. drilling 35 feet into sands. Promoters expect strong production and will seek expert advice on whether to shoot or drill farther. In Palmyra, Martin Muldrow bought part of the old McCabe property after the Smith Reality Co. subdivided it. six 25 foot lots sold for $1500 and total investment reached $4200. The Palmyra Commercial Club discussed Main street paving and the Hannibal and West Ely road bid process. The state highway department oversees a ten and a half mile cross state stretch with nearly $75,000 total funds and a $26,000 shortfall. the West Ely to Monroe City extension won’t be built this year due to exhausted aid funds.
