The Springfield Journal notes Gov Palmer vetoed over eighty bills as the legislature reconvened. Quince County issues include a rejected new court house proposal and city council delays on adding Chicago to the second ward. Rev Thomas Lippincott, Illinois pioneer preacher and father of Gen Lippincott, dies at Pana.
A four year old girl on Black Street was killed when a wagon wheel passed over her head. A sailor on the schooner Gifford fell from the mast head and died from a crushed skull and broken neck. A 16 year old boy on Randolph Street was severely injured, with a broken leg. In Iowa a three year old girl was seriously burned by a burning brush pile. At Sharpsburg near Pittsburgh Forsythe Brothers refinery burned, with tanks exploding and large losses estimated at 125000 to 200000 dollars, insurance only 45000. Two men two women and a child nearby were burned by benzine flames.
News from Yokohama and Hong Kong as tensions rise in Asia. Reports say a northern war fleet led by former Mikado ally has occupied Yesso, capturing Sodo and Lima on Nippon’s western coast. Earthquakes rattled Japan’s islands but caused no confirmed deaths. In Foo Chow, native Christians face continued executions.
