Classification of Freight for Illinois meets in Chicago
L. B. Boswell, commissioner Quincy Freight Bureau, will represent the Quincy organization at a Chicago meeting on April 14. Called by the Illinois Public Utilities commission, the session will review freight classifications in effect since February 15. Illinois is split into two sections by a dividing line from Chicago to Pekin then along the Mississippi to St. Louis. Quincy lies in the northern section where northern rates stayed the same while southern rates rose. The classification, prompted by Indiana shoppers concerns, allegedly burdens intrastate trade. All railroads must appear to justify continued use of Western classifications and rates beyond Illinois maximums or a substitute scale.
