The Bros. Wood of Sewall spent a few days here this week. Mrs. Oscar Wright arrived from Carbondale to join her husband who has been resident here and works as an engineer with W. L. Barton. B. A. Millard of Kandis Bay sold a steer over 500 pounds to locals, praised for beef quality and Graham Island’s cattle-raising potential.
A Woden River correspondent reports plans to spend at least 2000 on the Woden River and East Coast trail next season. The route, sole access to the outside world for a settlement on Graham Island, will aid development of prime land on the Ocanda south and west branches. Gardens begun show promise for future value as settlers seek productive land on Graham Island.
The Graham Centre Literary and Debating Club held last Saturday evening with Rev H H K Greene in the chair. Two papers sparked discussion. An executive meeting set for Monday at 8 pm outlined a Nov 15 church hall programme including a duet, songs, games, reading, and a prize for the top point scorer.
Mrs. Wallace leaves for Lethbridge this week after months with her parents Mr and Mrs Rudd of Queenstown. Miss Cross wins best lady's costume and Philip Hughes best gent's at the Halloween Masquerade Dance judged by Messrs Nash and Mac Dougall. Elder Watson of the Seventh Day Adventists spoke last Saturday night to a large attentive audience.
The notice promotes a joint offer for The Early Bird and The Weekly Mail and Empire valid until January 1 1915. New subscribers in the circulation zone can get both papers for 3 dollars, with existing Islander subscribers paying 1 dollar. A Conan Doyle serial The Poison Belt will be published in The Weekly Mail and Empire.
Public meetings to discuss municipal incorporation will be held in Queenstown on November 18 1913 Masset on the 20th Town Hill on the 22nd Lawn Hill on the 25th Skidegate on the 27th and Ty W J Leary J S Walsh set the schedule confirming the locations and dates.
The opening service at the Anglican church drew a large congregation with Rev H H K Greene delivering an excellent sermon. Builders Wormald and Shaw earned high praise for the Anglican church erection, though Shaw plans much hunting this winter, likely limiting his presence.
Queenstown holds church services every Sunday at 8 p m with Sunday school at 2 30 p m Choir practice takes place each Friday evening at 8 led by Rev H H Greene minister.
