Enquiry into Stranding of the Prince John at Masset
Preliminary inquiry in Victoria examined Capt Wearmouth and crew of the steamer Prince John after grounding on a Masset bar during a strong tide. Officers testified accuracy of tide timing, and a snub was deemed impossible. Inquiry will be forwarded to Ottawa for final decision. The Prince John, repaired at Esquimalt, will resume service to island ports.

Built at Wallace shipyards False Creek eight years ago for fisheries protection, she proved slow for the work but did capture three American fishing vessels. After layup she operated via chartered tug William Joliffe. now a call is issued for tenders to charter two vessels suitable for this class of work.

Two complaints filed in Seattle Superior Court allege James A. Moore promoter of Western Steel Corpora tion and related assets deceived Union Land Company and A W Denny. Union Land seeks 19000 for worth less preferred stock in exchange for land, claiming false assets figures. The B. C. Fisheries tug Aliford returned from Rupert on Tuesday with powder for government road work and dynamite for Cumshewa, which she will probably proceed to this week.

Dance Arrangements Planned at Skidegate for Dominion Day
Arrangements are made for a dance at Skidegate on Dominion Day July 1. The steamer British Columbia arrived with 250 cases of gasoil for the B C Fisheries. A photograph captured four steamers Prince Albert Radio British Columbia and Edrie together at Skidegate in an unprecedented event. The Skeena canneries face labor shortages as local Indians are employed at home. School children enjoyed a half holiday for the King's birthday and a nature walk led by Miss Atkins ended with tea at Mrs Fraser's. Government agent Sandilands inspected road work along the East coast with about 150 men employed. The steamer Vadso delivered coal tinplate boilers machinery and freight to Aliford Bay. The radio called at Queen Charlotte for W J Smith and D Cochrane. A football match at the Indian village between B C Fisheries and Natives ended 5 to 1 for the Indians amid rough play and disputes. The match was poorly attended and there is a view that further games are not opportune.
