Arch Hurley rejects water allocation as lake rises
Arch Hurley Conservancy District again votes not to allocate irrigation water despite Conchas Lake rising to 4163.2 feet. In August the lake received 7107 acre feet inflow with 2355 acre feet losses. level up four feet since April. The board plans liens on eight delinquent accounts and buys a $79000 Bobcat loader with funding from state capital outlay.

Altrusa Chapter Wins International Literacy Award
The Tucumcari Altrusa chapter received the international Letha H. Brown Literacy Award and $100 for its Love & Literacy in the Time of COVID project. Six teachers earned $200 scholarships to fund literacy materials benefiting about 300 Quay County students amid the pandemic. Chapter president Janie Hoffman credited the group’s members for their effort.

Tucumcari man arraigned in homicide by vehicle case
On this date in 1971 Raymond Valdez twenty of Tucumcari was arraigned on homicide by vehicle charges for a two car crash that killed Dottie Whitmore forty four of Miami Oklahoma. Whitmore died after burns and transfer to Bernalillo County Hospital. Her husband Paul remained in serious condition with burns.
