The 6 p.m. Meet The Stampede night kicks off at Quay County Rodeo Arena Friday and runs through Saturday 9 am to 9 pm with Mesalands Rodeo at Quay County Fair Grounds 9 am to 6 pm. Tucumcari Rail Road Days set at the Tucumcari Train Depot across the town.
The Quay County Sun announces its office hours 8 30 a m 4 30 p m Monday through Friday and during the lunch hour.
A survey shows 19 percent have already purchased costumes for Halloween while 81 percent have not. The poll highlights strong early buying activity and potential for late purchases.

In October 1963 the Olympic torch traveled east through Tucumcari on Route 66 toward Detroit to promote the 1968 Summer Games. Separate items note work on a new eye clinic by Dr. J R Meansland with a multi-room facility and a Sikorsky H 37 helicopter refueling at the city airport en route to Fort Sill. The local Animal Clinic, led by Dr. S J Dowds, was expanded to extend care across four counties.
Randall Jones was sentenced to life in prison plus 21 years for aggravated burglary auto theft and tampering with evidence in the murder of Shirley Pacheco of Tucumcari. The judge ordered some terms consecutive others concurrent with the life sentence. The victim’s family expressed relief and remorse was noted by Jones who apologized to Shirley’s mother Christine Pacheco.
Mesalands Community College hosts Stampede Week activities to connect with the public ahead of the fall rodeo at the Quay County Fair Grounds. Interim coach Tim Abbott invites residents to a 6 p.m. Meet the Stampede Day open practice with free snacks and team introductions before Friday and Saturday’s events. he notes strong community ties and competitive mood despite fewer competitors in the Grand Canyon Region.
The Tucumcari Railroad Days will showcase working model trains and static displays at the Historic Train Depot in Tucumcari. A collaborative effort by the Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce Tucumcari Main Street and the Tucumcari Railroad Museum, the free event honors local railroad workers with over 100 items. The depot on Union Pacific’s Chicago to El Paso line sees 16 to 20 freight trains daily and will host two Albuquerque model rail clubs plus employee photos from various operators in Tucumcari.
