Mesalands Community College will begin its search for a new president after the new year, says trustee chairman J. Bronson Moore. He calls the president's termination an unfortunate bump but affirms ongoing focus on educational improvements and program expansion.
The Mesalands Community College board of trustees terminated Mildred Lovato’s at will contract as president on Oct 31 after learning she had been on administrative leave previously. Investigations show Lovato also faced voluntary administrative leave in 2010 while vice president of Instruction at Bakersfield College.
Father Hugenus Anita dedicated the Tucumcari Animal Hospital building on Thursday with Dr. Jean Corey of veterinary medicine presiding. Volunteers cleaned cages from the May arson fire and donations funded a temporary setup. Tom Anderson announced new equipment including a blood analyzer, x ray unit, and computers, while thanking the community for support. No arrests have been made in connection with the arson.
Veronica Sandy city code enforcement officer said over 50 residents used the old Tucumcari landfill for free dumping on Saturday depositing 4.6 tons of waste by showing a current water bill. Commissioner Robert Lumpkin praised the effort and suggested another dumping day in spring.
