Open mic poet proposes at rural reading event
Mericle proposed during a two day event sponsored by Art Space and Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari. Salazar was surprised and touched by the effort to keep the poetry proposal secret while Mericle shared new works. The second day featured a writing workshop led by national champion slam poet Zachary Kluckman. Andi Penner of NMSPS praised strong attendance and the chance for regional artists to showcase diverse styles.

Tucumcari man pleads guilty in fatal vehicle crash
A Tucumcari man, David Urea-Lopez, 28, pleaded guilty in the Tenth Judicial District Court to homicide by vehicle in the death of Sylvia Cruz, 24. He also admitted to tampering with evidence, failure to render aid, and failing to give immediate notice. The Jan 25 2013 crash on Five Mile Park Road led to Cruzs death and a possible maximum eight years and nine months in prison.

Mesalands Offers Alzheimer’s Awareness Courses for First Responders
Mesalands Community College will run two Approaching Alzheimer's courses to educate first responders on handling dementia encounters. Sessions include a virtual dementia tour and topics such as recognizing signs, communication, resources, and systematic thinking. Registration costs 95 dollars for the one credit hour course with limited spaces.

ENMWUA approves funding application and urgent-status push
At the Portales meeting on November 12 ENMWUA members approved consent items including two continuation contracts and budget changes, and a resolution to seek up to 5 million dollars from the New Mexico Water Trust Board for groundwater project construction.
