Four New Mexico women claimed titles at the Miss Portales Pageant held Sunday night at Eastern New Mexico University. The event crowned winners across several divisions, highlighting local talent in Portales.
Both Tucumcari and Logan wrapped up their seasons with losses last Friday. The games concluded their campaigns as teams exit with final records and lingering postseason hopes unresolved.
Gov Susana Martinez names Tucumcari attorney Timothy O Quinn to fill the Quay County Magistrate Court vacancy after the retirement of David Garnett. O Quinn, a former prosecutor, joins applicants Paula Chacon Thomas Blakeney Kristine Olsen Jefferson Byrd Nathan Wallace Edwin Bruhn and Patricia Lopez in the selection process. Garnett retired Sept 30 after more than nine years on the bench with the four year term ending 2018. O Quinn has not yet been sworn in.
Gage Block 12 received an award from the Quay County Sheriff's Office for waking his family and leading them to safety as their home on Quay Road burned early Oct 17. Fire chief John Hinze reported the structure was engulfed on arrival and a metal roof intensified the blaze.

Albuquerque native Alex Stern released Runaways on September 27 as the lead single from Midnight Bandits. She filmed two days in Tucumcari at Watson's Barbecue Tucumcari Ranch Supply and the Blue Swallow Motel to showcase Route 66 neon legacy and local hospitality.
