Democrat Sue Dowell defeated Independent Wendell Smith for Quay County Commission District 1 with about 60 percent of the unofficial vote 2061 to 1359 Dowell expressed excitement at representing residents. Tucumcari Police Nab Two Suspects in 1955 Kidnapping Case
In November 1955 at Tucumcari Airport police arrested pilot Trygve Lovsto and Lodema Osburg on kidnapping charges. Osburg allegedly abducted her three children from her ex husband and their step mother, flying from Tulsa to Tucumcari. The children were returned to their father and step mother and both suspects faced Oklahoma kidnapping charges.
