Winter storm freezes Quay County roads delays and closures
An early winter storm on Wednesday closed schools in Quay County and caused multiple accidents along Interstate 40 between Tucumcari and Santa Rosa. Ice coated roads up to one-eighth inch thick, with hazardous driving on U S 54 and Highway 104 north of Tucumcari. Municipalities delayed openings, canceled classes at Mesalands Community College and area schools, and buses were not run in Tucumcari amid temperatures dropping to 12 degrees by Thursday morning.

BLM Donates Acreage for Tucumcari Recreation Project
On November 6 1969 Howard Abercrombie told the Tucumcari Quay County Chamber of Commerce the Bureau of Land Management will donate 80 acres near the San Jon caprock for public recreation. The land should become a camping and viewing area with the Quay County Commission urged to sponsor. Safeway advertised steaks and bacon prices while the Odeon Theatre showed Dr Zhivago.
