Quay County Deputy Abduction Wounds Reported in 1972
May 25 1972 New Mexico State Police said Quay County special deputy Travis Haynes remained in intensive care after two men abducted him and shot him in the head and left him near a telephone building in Taiwan. He improved slowly, could hear and remember. Haynes died in 1984. Dr. Howard E. Melton of Eastern New Mexico University will speak at Tucumcari High School commencement at Rattler Gym.

One hundred twenty one THS seniors were slated to graduate tonight. Tucumcari commissioners planned a meeting in the new commission chambers of a remodeled City Hall. The Odeon Theatre screened the horror film Frogs featuring Sam Elliott and Ray Milland with the tagline Its the day that Nature strikes back. Canal Drive In offered a double feature of The Loners and Hells Angels on Wheels.

County approves preliminary FY23 budget in Tucumcari area
The Quay County Commission approved a FY23 preliminary budget with 10.7 million in revenue and 16.7 million in expenditures.
