Leonard Lauriault of the Church of Christ in Logan writes for the Quay County Sun on Lent. He notes Jesus fasted forty days and nights and emphasizes prayer fasting and almsgiving as Christian practices beyond a 40 day period.
Quay County officials announce a March 8 filing deadline for the June 7 primary. Eligible candidates must file 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 300 S. Third St Tucumcari with a $50 fee and proof of state campaign registration.
A three part documentary titled Route 66 The Untold Story of Women on the Mother Road airs at 10 a.m. MT Saturday on KENW TV Portales with a second episode at 10 a.m. March 13. Producer Katrina Parks interviewed Roxann Travis of Glenrio and other Texas Panhandle women. The film, supported by the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, airs across 17 PBS stations for Women’s History Month.
On date 1972 Tucumcari High School students waited outside after a bomb threat warned of a blast in 30 minutes. Police searched the building found no device. Also in town New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Samuel Montoya and Joe Wood sought re election at a luncheon. Jon Hale and Danny Young named to the New Mexico Olympic Marching Band touring Europe in August.
