Tucumcari native Danny Villanueva, born 1937, joins five inductees into the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame. Villanueva starred for NMSU and later played NFL kicking and punting for the Rams and Cowboys, co founded Univision, and died in 2015. Inductees also include Goble Poyer, Johnson, Murray, and Roybal. Ceremony set for August 19 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Dog attack hospitalizes Tucumcari resident
New Tucumcari resident John Nichols was bitten by a neighbor’s pitbull on Saturday afternoon in the 2000 block of South Eighth Street. He sustained bites on multiple body parts, required eight staples for a head wound, and the dog was quarantined for 10 days under a home confinement order. The incident follows a February fatal dog attack in Tucumcari and has sparked calls for stricter pitbull controls and liability insurance.

Pow Wow to reopen in July under new Tucumcari owners
Tucumcari residents Christopher and Tori Arias have completed their purchase of the Pow Wow Restaurant and Lizard Lounge and plan to reopen around July 7 with a trimmed down name and menu. The couple will run the venue seven days a week for lunch and dinner with weekend extended hours and will keep meeting rooms for local groups. The Pow Wow date follows former owner Todd Duplantis closing the site after Mother's Day. the neon Thunderbird sign is to be repaired after May 25 hail damage.
