Connie Loveland began as executive director of Tucumcari MainStreet on June 3 in the historic railroad depot. A longtime local, she comes after 12 years in banking and leadership of Fired Up festivals, with goals to finish the Main Street demolition at 101 Main and boost outreach via social media.

High speed pursuit ends in crash in Quay County
Colorado parole violators Sherbondy and Campbell led deputies on a brief I-40 chase in a white Volvo S60. The pursuit reached speeds up to 124 mph before a collision with a Valdez patrol car caused $5,300 damage and knocked a transmission cooler. Deputies expect restitution and note dash cam failures and dry, rapid reaction times.

After a 20 minute closed session Mesalands Community College trustees voted to extend Groesbeck’s contract to June 30 2022 with compensation to be decided later. He earns about 156000 annually and lauded by board secretary Liz Estrada for strong performance. Groesbeck praised the college and its staff while noting the area remains the best kept secret in New Mexico.

A belated biographical tale recalls Josef born in 1840 Belgium who spent eleven years aiding a leper colony at Kalaupapa Hawaii. He built homes, roads, a hospital and a church while ministering daily though few lepers attended. He contracted leprosy and died at 49.
