County Budget Sees Little Change in 2014 Plan
County Manager Richard Primrose presented the fiscal 2014 budget to the Quay County Commission on May 28. The plan totals about 8 million in cash with 1.5 million from property taxes and 1.3 million from hospital revenues, plus state funds and capital outlays. Expenses near 8.6 million include 2 million general fund and 1.2 million road costs, hospital expenses of 1.1 million, and 1 million for the county jail. The plan closes a 300000 Block Grant allocation for paving Quay Road 64, with two fully paved county roads to date, while pursuing 500000 more in federal funds for Quay Road 63. Cap outlays include jail air conditioning and hospital window replacements. A 2 percent raise for 72 employees is planned, offset mainly by retirement costs, contributing to a 72000 salary increase.

Imaginative column crosses leagues from lizard tales to hockey losses
Thomas Garcia crafts a whimsical column blending an office lizard, Oktoberfest imagery, and a dramatic ascent scene. A misplaced Orange Glow cleaner ends the fantasy as the Red Wings fall to the Blackhawks, grounding readers back to reality.
