Gun death under investigation in Nara Visa

State police continue to investigate a Saturday night shooting in Nara Visa that killed 32 year old Ty Fields. Officers responded to a fight on Second Street around 8 p.m. and found a fatal gunshot wound. Police have no arrests and are interviewing witnesses to clarify what occurred over property not returned.

Mesalands bids farewell to Barry as a new president arrives

Mesalands Community College honored President Emeritus Phillip O. Barry at a retirement ceremony attended by about 100. Board chair J. Bronson Moore and State Rep. Dennis Roch praised his 15 years leading the college and courting funding. Barry recalled accreditation battles and Gov. Johnson’s warning, while Mesalands welcomed new President Mildred Lovato and rodeo coach C. J. Aragon presented a plaque.
