Officials from CMI agencies on the High Plains approve Mesalands Community College purchasing an armory facility expansion. The decision outlines funding and project scope for upgrades to storage and training spaces.
Tucumcari leaders plan a 4 to 5 mile Flintstones ORV track on 160 acres north of town off Highway 104. Robert Kruger and Outlaw Desert Racing volunteers are clearing mesquite to host a national level event in August, with Robby Gordon among potential entrants and 300 to 400 entries expected. The site may later host a rally-driving school with Mesalands Community College.
Tucumcari City Commission will interview two applicants for municipal judge on January 24. Larry Brown, interim judge since October 29, and Noreen Hendrickson, active in VFW 2528 and local health and community groups, seek the post. The winner must run in November with other council seats due to a 2018 state election law.
The agenda for the commission’s Thursday meeting includes the item Sixth Racetrack License amid a pending Hidalgo Downs LLC lawsuit that seeks to halt the process. Commissioners may delay action as court dates are unsettled and legal representation is not guaranteed until the case resolves. The boardroom meeting at 4900 Alameda Blvd in Albuquerque starts at 9:30 a.m.
