Newkirk Opens Pablo Aragon Fire Station With Ribbon Cut
The Newkirk Volunteer Fire Department unveiled the Pablo Aragon Fire Station on December 29 after a $580,000 grant and a NM Finance Authority loan funded the project begun in 2017 on land donated by Michael and Mary Romero. The station honors Pablo Aragon, the great-great-grandfather of Romero, and the VFD also secured a state Forestry Division grant for wildland equipment. In 2022 the department logged over 28 calls, including wildfires and highway crashes, as Newkirk sits near the Quay County line.
