Suspect surrenders after hours standoff in Tucumcari
Edwin R. Corrales 40, identified as armed robbery suspect, was captured after a lengthy standoff on South First Street Tucumcari. He allegedly robbed passenger Paul Klander of 2000 dollars, fled from police, then barricaded in a van until a state police robot deployed teargas and officers detained him.

Waiver saves 1.2 million for San Jon school project
San Jon Municipal Schools won a state waiver of a 31 percent local match, saving over 1.28 million dollars as the New Mexico Public Schools Capital Outlay Council approved 4.14 million for design of a new San Jon school. Superintendent Alan Umholtz credited community support including a 250 thousand dollar bond in November and outlined plans to hire a project manager and complete design within six months.

Tucumcari considers higher hours for visitors center worker
Tucumcari Lodgers Tax Advisory Board backs amending the chamber contract to boost the part-time worker’s hours at the Tucumcari Visitors Center to 28 weekly hours through June. The plan, tied to a $2,000 monthly rate, would use about $9,000 of a $12,000 annual budget as the chamber rebuilds after hail damage and staffing gaps.
