Former resident Pyne repeats IFR world title in Oklahoma City

Stassi Pyne, 2000 Mesa Technical College graduate and former Quay County resident, won her second consecutive International Professional Finals Rodeo World Champion Barrel Racing title at IFR43 in Oklahoma City January 18 to 20. She earned a go round buckle and tied for highest money winners with T J Goleson and Jay Miller. Pyne, with horses Super De George and Hey Bill, has competed in 30 IFR rodeos while living in Michigan with husband Rob and children Colten and Taylor.

Mesalands hosts open house to showcase STEM upgrades

Mesalands Community College invites the public to an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on February 27 in Building A. The STEM program funded by the U.S. Department of Education supports a new life and environmental science lab, remodeled physics, a Math Science Learning Center and two elite math classrooms.

DAR essay winners honored in Tucumcari chapter event

Fifth grader Jackson Rodgers won for "Forgotten Patriots" and spoke at the DAR luncheon, after researching online. Senior Kyle Lease received the Good Citizens Award with a flag, check and certificate. Fred Porter of the VFW received 144 new American Flags donated by the DAR following shortages on Veterans Day 2012 graves.
