Mesalands foundation cuts leases to save college funds
Mesalands Community College trimmed or eliminated lease costs through the Mesalands Community College Foundation during a Dec. 12 board meeting, saving nearly $50,000 for the financially strained college. Reductions included leases for the Alco property 924 W Route 66 Blvd EDC property and equine center stock trailer cargo trailer and other facilities.

Iola S Allender 87 of Soldotna died December 11 2023 in Aspen Creek Assisted Living Soldotna AK. She was born January 23 1936 in Heber Springs Arkansas and moved to Alaska in 1974 later serving as a Presbyterian minister in South Dakota and New Mexico before retiring in 2008 and returning to Alaska in 2019. She is survived by five children fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren with arrangements by Peninsula Memorial Chapel Crematory in Homer. Burial is set for July 24 2024 at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.
