Quay County unemployment rose to 7.2 percent in July from 7.1 percent in June while the labor force stayed around 3,900. New Mexico statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment was 6.9 percent, up from 6.8 in June but down from 7.0 a year ago, with 1.1 percent over the year job growth and 8,800 new jobs. Nine industries added jobs year over year, while four lost.
A series of brief police logs detail fights prowlers and alarms from the 800 block of West Route 66 to South Monroe Street and East Center Street. Several arrests occur for warrants and a stolen vehicle, with many calls declared as all clear after officer checks.
