Fire engulfs Versatile asphalt plant in Tucumcari incident

A major fire at Versatile Construction Co. asphalt plant on Tucumcari’s north side produced thick black smoke and propane tank explosions. No injuries were reported. the plant and nearby facilities were evacuated, and investigations and environmental cleanup were planned.

Water conservation in Tucumcari aims to boost scarce resources

Researchers at New Mexico State University’s Rex E Kirksey Agricultural Science Center study tillage and nitrogen strategies to improve corn yield and water use in semiarid New Mexico. A three year comparison of conventional, strip and no tillage plus two nitrogen rates shows strip tillage enhances resource efficiency. The work, published in Agronomy Journal, involves Omololu Idowu and others.
