Tornado Hits San Jon Area. Telephone Poles Damaged
A tornado near San Jon in August 1970 damaged all but two telephone polls along a one mile stretch north of town and caused uprooted trees. No buildings were damaged. In Tucumcari the Rattlers held a scrimmage with Fort Sumner as players run the Powers formation. The Odeon Theater screened The Hawaiians with Charlton Heston and Hell in the Pacific with Lee Marvin and Toshiro Mifune.
