Confederate Civil War Vet Honored With New Headstone
Alfred Shelby died in September 1914 in Tucumcari. His grave lacked a headstone until Donna Scott, his great great granddaughter, funded and secured a marker at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Her genealogical research revealed Shelby served as a sergeant in Company F of the 34th Texas Cavalry.

Wynashe Found Incompetent for Trial in 2009 Murder Case
Tucumcari resident Robert W. Chief Wynashe was ruled incompetent to stand trial by the 10th Judicial District Court after a 2009 homicide linked to the Red Wood Lodge incident. The shooting left Howard Russell King paralyzed. King died in August 2009, and Wynashe faces murder charges. He will be transported to a Las Vegas mental health facility for treatment until competency is restored.
