ISC seeks control of water in Canadian River below Ute Lake dam

The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission seeks water control on the Canadian River and tributaries below Ute Lake Reservoir to protect Arkansas River shiner habitat. A public meeting is set for Aug 17 at Tucumcari High School to discuss the application submitted May 4 to the Office of the State Engineer.

Train Service Halted by Severe Washouts in 1917 Texas Panhandle

A 1917 high plains rainstorm battered the Texas Panhandle and eastern New Mexico causing a bad track washout between Adrian and Vega and miles of road damage from Lesbia to Tucumcari. Tucumcari saw up to 5.8 inches in two hours and 14.26 inches for the year, with water 2 feet deep on streets and $30,000 in damages.

Field Day highlights at Tucumcari science center

The New Mexico State University Agricultural Science Center at Tucumcari hosted Field Day with about 50 local officials farmers ranchers and residents attending. Speakers including Mesalands Community College President Thomas Newsom and Arch Hurley Conservancy District Manager Franklin McCasland praised the center's work and its impact beyond the region despite 101 degree heat.

County Road Work Increases After Rain In Tucumcari

Quay County officials discussed road conditions and maintenance after recent moisture. Residents urged repairs on QR 65 noting widening and caliche resurfacing needed and a culvert to divert flood water from a driveway.
