Tucumcari Officer Resigns Amid Break-in and Property Charge

Tucumcari police officer Pete Vargas resigns effective April 19 amid charges of breaking and entering and criminal damage to property filed in the Tenth Judicial District Court. Vargas, 32, had been on administrative duty since his Feb. 27 arrest, with a trial date pending after Judge Albert J. Mitchell Jr. recused himself. Police said Vargas and the home owner, Roseann Quintana, had a continuing intimate relationship. state police investigated a 3:50 a.m. break-in at 1805 S Sixth St. in Tucumcari where Vargas was on scene.

Ute Lake Water Authority Hires Santa Fe Law Firm

The Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority announced its first outside counsel, Montgomery and Andrews Law Firm of Santa Fe, after a 25 minute executive session at Clovis City Hall. The move follows Logan village suit to halt the Ute Water Project and its environmental reviews.

Tucumcari Historians Share Stories At Endee Event

Local historians at the Tucumcari Historical Museum recounted life in and around Quay County drawing more than a dozen residents. Horace Woods, born in 1915 in Wheeler Texas, recalled his family’s move to New Mexico and cotton farming hardships before settling on a Curry County homestead north of Broadview.
