Arch Hurley board withholds irrigation water for now

The Arch Hurley Conservancy District on April 13 voted to not allocate any irrigation water as drought tightens. Conchas Lake levels sit at 4159 feet, 15 feet below last year, with gravity discharge unavailable below 4162 feet. Snowfall helped but winter snowpack reached only 87 percent of normal through April. Board may discharge month to month and could call a special meeting after rain. Drought map shows severe to exceptional conditions across much of New Mexico. The board also set property tax rates at 5.784 mills per $100.
