June Garden of the Month Mind Your Manners and Flowers
Punxsutawney Garden Club names P J and Herb Manners June Garden of the Month. The couple restored a brush and poison ivy overgrown property since 1975, keeps plant records on index cards, and cultivates about 170 perennials with annuals. The garden sits in a zone four area and features Gaillardia and sedums among granite walkways.

Willow Run Sanctuary hosts Fido 5K Run Walk second year
Willow Run Sanctuary for Animals, a non profit group founded by Margo Stefanic in 2011, will stage the Fido 5K Run Walk on June 29 to support abused and neglected animals. Stefanic and co owner Tommie Shaffer run the shelter that provides care, food and shelter to those in need.

PASR supports shelter and kindness through grants
PASR Jefferson County Chapter showcased service projects at its spring luncheon led by President S. Thomas Curry in Punxsutawney. The event included a $250 Education Support Grant to Punxsutawney Area School District teacher Jason Grusky for wind turbine model kits, with Betty Elza announcing this year’s grant winner. Members also donated canned goods and household items to aid hunger relief, continuing the state objective.
