The post aims to provide a valued community space and invites support to improve the clubhouse and grounds.
Miss Miller Week observance ends with cancellation of the open house planned for this Sunday in the school auditorium due to illness in the family. She was honored last week at a faculty and school board party and received a traveling case while the class of 49 presented roses and a parasol as gifts.

The military funeral for Lt Burl Sloan of Brandon was held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon with Rev Stanley Kenderdine officiating. Members of the American Legion in uniform attended, and pallbearers included Tracy Mc Fonley and Denny Staimbrook among others. Born November 15, 1921, Sloan died in action April 12, 1945 in Barby, Germany.
Mrs Wm R Cordray county president of the Black Hawk county American Legion Antil lary announced this week that their magazine subscription campaign has been completed. Funds were raised to purchase portable pneophore units with nebulizers for county wide use. The devices will be available for free use upon doctor recommendation and housed through American Legion Auxiliary units in Cedar Falls Waterloo Hudson Dunekt on and La Porte City.
The La Porte City summer recreation program starts this week with Randall Webb in charge until June 15, then Howard Larson takes over. Swimming returns at the Waterloo pool, bus trips depart from the schoolhouse on Wednesdays and Fridays, with craft work and athletics planned. Boys play baseball at Brandon Friday and travel to Dunkerton Wednesday for another game.
Summer school in the La Porte City consolidated system begins Tuesday May 21. Supt Harold D Matt announces daily sessions from 8am to 4pm, lasting six weeks. Mrs Esa Bowle returns as instructor for topics in reading, numbers, and phonics. High school students may attend for extra reading work. The program aims to help struggling students and allow makeup work. credit is given for completed work. Each student must supply own miscellaneous supplies.
